my name is Ashley Bastock:
Ashley Bastock is a Browns beat reporter for cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer, a role she has held since October 2021. She was named Best Sports Feature Writer in the 2023 Ohio Associated Press Managing Editors contest (Division IV) and earned second place for Best Sports Enterprise in the 2024 Ohio APME contest (Division III).

Ashley focuses primarily on telling unique, in-depth Browns feature stories. In addition to feature writing, Ashley contributes to daily news coverage and appears on the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast and in videos. During the Browns’ offseason, she also assists with Cavaliers coverage.

Ashley has covered Cleveland-area sports for eight years and has contributed to coverage of the NBA Finals, MLB All-Star Week, NBA All-Star Weekend, the NFL Combine, and the NFL Draft, among other major events. She has also played a key role in coverage of the WNBA’s upcoming return to Cleveland in 2028.

Her previous stops include The Akron Beacon Journal (2020–21), where she covered high school sports and assisted with Cavaliers and Guardians coverage; The Toledo Blade (2018–20), where she was the University of Michigan beat writer covering football and men’s basketball; and NBC News (2015–16), where she worked as a production assistant on Meet the Press after serving as the seventh John Carroll University Tim Russert Fellow. She also worked as a freelance writer from 2017 to 2018, with work appearing in Sports Business Journal, The Associated Press, and SB Nation, among others.
A 2015 graduate of John Carroll University, Ashley majored in journalism and received minors in political science and English, as well as a concentration in political communication.
