Education
I received my bachelor's degree and graduated summa cum laude from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio on the east side of Cleveland. I majored in journalism and minored in both political science and English literature. In addition, I received a concentration in political communication.
Throughout my time at John Carroll I took classes in journalism, media ethics, video production, international relations, American electoral politics, and both British and American Literature, among others. I was honored to receive the Academic Excellence Award for the Russert Department of Communication as well as the Druckenbrod Scholarship in Media Ethics and the James Breslin Scholarship for Television Production. I maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA and made the Dean's List every semester while being enrolled in the Honors program.
I was also actively involved on campus. As a member of the varsity women's basketball team I won a conference title (2013-14) and made a trip to the NCAA tournament with my teammates. I also served as assistant sports editor and world news writer for the award-winning Carroll News, the campus newspaper, and was a member of the JCU chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. I broadcasted and produced football, basketball, and baseball games for WJCU 88.7 FM and was the first female ever to broadcast both play-by-play and color commentary for John Carroll football and basketball. At JCTV-4, the campus television station, produced and starred in my own show entitled Sports Roulette. I was also actively involved in work study through the Russert Department, and served as Vice President of Eta Eta, John Carroll's branch of the communication honors society, Lambda Pi Eta.
While I was actively involved at the collegiate level, my high school gave me my first taste of journalism. During my junior year, I began working for Steele News Live, a highly competitive television class at Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, Ohio. During my senior year, I produced over 120 live newscasts with 19 of my classmates, alternating responsibilities that included camera operator, anchor, reporter and director. I received recognition from NATAS in 2011, winning the regional student Emmy in writing. I also received an honorable mention in the news category, and a runner-up nod in the public service category. The skills and foundation I built at Steele High School helped form me into the journalist I am today.
