Cavs Q&A's 2014-2015

When I worked for Cleveland 19 during my senior year of college I had the opportunity to essentially become a Cavs reporter. While I went to the games and helped to decide highlights, I also went into the locker room following the games and talked to the players and coaches.

Ashley Bastock Demo Sport Read

This video is a clip of a practice sports reel that I both wrote and produced. I learned a lot from all of the on-air talent I have worked to and hope to continue to improve my on-air presence.

School of Hard Knocks

I produced this long format documentary story that chronicles the journey of four athletes suffering from concussions at every level of sport.  Through the interviews of high school, college, and former professional athletes, I sought to change attitudes about these complex head injuries.  This project was turned in for my senior honors project at John Carroll University.

This project showed me that I have the ability to make a long-format story successfully.  While I worked on it by myself, it showed me how much help I recieved from many people who work around me, and that a lot of what I do would not be possible without the help of my co-workers.

Ashley Bastock NBC News Desk reads
May 2014 - July 2014
by Ashley Bastock

This video is a compilation of my desk reads from the bulletin camera at NBC News Washington.  These reads show my ability in writing, as I wrote the scripts myself, and also are some of my best on camera reads.

This project taught me the importance of having a strong script and also, that I need to remain conversational while on-air instead of trying to be so unnaturally professional that my on-air presence is stiff.  Through the help of my mentors, I hope to improve my presence.

NCAA Concussion Class Action Lawsuit

I produced this package story while at NBC News.  With the help of NBC editors I was really able to hone my skills in Avid during this project as well.  Ultimately, this project solidified my interest in a topic that would eventually serve as my senior thesis.
